Hobbies

When I'm not working, I try to stay just as busy outside of it.

After living in the United States for 50 years, I felt it was time for a change. I sold nearly everything, packed up my two dogs and cat, and moved to the Caribbean coast of Mexico in January 2021. Puerto Morelos wasn't a random choice. My kids and I had vacationed in this area almost every year, and it eventually felt less like a destination and more like home.

There's a lot to enjoy here. The beach is a 10 minute drive, and the area has a great mix of restaurants, many of them not even Mexican cuisine. Puerto Morelos sits along the second largest reef system in the world, so snorkeling and scuba diving are both close by.

When I want a change of scenery, the Cozumel ferry terminal in Playa del Carmen is just 30 minutes away, and it's become my go-to weekend getaway, usually with my dogs in tow. Some weekends mean a boat trip with friends out to Isla Mujeres, others mean trying a new restaurant up in Cancun.

At least a couple times a year, I'll get on a plane and go somewhere new. Between the US, the Caribbean, and the rest of Mexico, Central, and South America, the Cancun airport (20 minutes from home) makes it easy to get almost anywhere, including back to the US for work when needed.

Family, friends, good food, travel, and my pets are what I look forward to most outside of work.
